Anthemion Preservation Award

Louis Cherry Architecture and Cherry Building were awarded a Capital Area Preservation Award for the preservation of 222 N. Bloodworth St in historic Oakwood. The 1900 era Barnes Grocery was, for several decades a hub of civic life in the residential neighborhood as one of a handful of commercial uses. It had become unstable and was in imminent danger of serious damage and, ultimately, collapse. LCA designed a new foundation and supports to true up walls and floors and to stop water from penetrating the crawl space. It is now good for another century of use and we are enjoying having an office that is connected to the civic life of Oakwood and downtown Raleigh.
