Louis Cherry Architecture Picked to Design New Public Library in Annapolis, MD in National Design Search
Louis Cherry Architecture of Raleigh, NC has been selected as design architect for the new Annapolis Regional Library in Annapolis, Maryland. Officials for the Anne Arundel County Public Libraries recently announced the makeup of the architectural team responsible for creating the new Annapolis Regional Library, selected from a national pool of library designers. The 32,500-square-foot-facility is estimated to cost $24.2 million.
Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh remarked that,”We have promised the Annapolis community a state-of-the-art library, and this team will deliver on that promise.” Schuh added that, “In the 21st century, public libraries are evolving in the way that they serve and support communities. They are a lifeline for underserved communities offering essential access to information and tools for survival and success.”
Louis Cherry has a long history designing public libraries, including Cameron Village Library, Durham Southwest Regional Library, and Chatham Community Library. Annapolis firm WGM Architects will be the executive, local architect for the library and Margaret Sullivan Studio of New York City will be the library programmer.

Louis Cherry has been practicing architecture in North Carolina since 1983. Trained in literature (Duke University), art (East Carolina University), and architecture (North Carolina State University), Louis was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) in 2009 and is accredited as a LEED design professional (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Efficient Design). Louis has served on the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh, and was a founder of the Moore Square Museum Magnet Middle School community garden. Louis has taught periodically in the NCSU College of Design for over 20 years teaching design studios and professional practice.
